Heriz carpets are knotted in and around the city of Heris, situated in the northwestern part of Iran in East Azerbaijan, close to the city of Tabriz. Heriz carpets are durable and hard-wearing and can last for many generations when properly cared for. This is partially due to the geographical proximity of Mount Sabalan, which sits on an important copper deposit. Traces of this copper are found in the drinking water of the sheep which results in a tougher and more resilient wool quality than in other areas.
Heriz carpets are fairly easy to recognise and often feature a characteristic large rectangular medallion and large marked corner sections. The carpets tend to be rather large in size and work extremely well in larger spaces, both offices and living rooms. Their dimensions and elaborate medallion patterns are the perfect complement for open spaces, allowing the carpet to beautifully tie the decor of a room together.
Patina
Our collection of Patina carpets is comprised of older Persian carpets that all show signs of natural wear and ageing. The carpets are carefully selected with the intention of preserving their cultural heritage and breathing new life into them. All our Patina carpets are washed before undergoing a thorough inspection. If any signs of damage are found these are attended to, and if the pile is unevenly trimmed it is gently polished down to achieve an even pile and add a natural sheen to the carpet.
The result is a one-of-a-kind carpet that still possesses all the qualities of an older hand-knotted carpet. A beautiful carpet with a genuine feel that has intentionally been allowed to retain a distinct patina appearance: to be discovered and admired by yet another generation to come.
